Fort Worth Modern + a Pit Stop @ Fred’s

This past weekend I traveled to Fort Worth to check out the Fort Worth Modern. Along the way I wound up at a tiny little diner called Fred’s. Expecting to find some dingy lighting and maybe a juke box I was shocked to find a home-grown Texas art exhibition. If Walker Texas Ranger were a curator, this would be his museum. Not to say that this quirky little joint wasn’t in good taste - I mean Chuck Norris can do anything right?

You can definitely find traces of fine art here. The neon light fixtures could almost be mistaken for Bruce Nauman, and the sketch of the deceased owner could very well be an early work by Richard Prince.

They even have a video installation. Pictured left to right ~ Exhibitions coordinator & Curator

The “cold-ass” beer is accentuated by the museum-grade light installation.

The collection of painted ceramic plates rounded out the exhibition. Overall it was uninhibited and raw, a real look into the average Texan psyche - pure curatorial genius!! And I forgot to mention - the burgers are really good here too.
Afterward, I headed over to see the exhibition by German Artist Gardar Eide Einarsson. His worked seemed minimal in comparison to Fred’s - I would coin him as a german minamalist if his subject matter wasn’t so darn american. (listen to the interview below to hear more on this matter) I did find this comparison Interesting: Fred’s Diner vs. Gardar Eide Einarsson ~ both reactions to everyday american culture.

I wasn’t really allowed to take pictures so unfortunately this is the only image I have of his exhibition.
