POSTPONED ~ Friday Jan 8th Exhibition Opening @161 Glass

the Dallas contemporary has postponed the opening exhibition with the future date to be determined.  The press release cites the following

“After several months of reconstruction on its 1950s industrial building,

unforeseen circumstances prevented Dallas Contemporary from completing all

the necessary elements in time to achieve a Certificate of Occupancy. With

respect for city regulations, Dallas Contemporary plans to open its new space

and dramatic inaugural exhibition by artist James Gilbert at a later date occurring in the next several weeks.  “

This situation is exactly the type of irony and paradox that the art world both loves to hate & hates to love.  The exhibition Warnings and Instructions ~ an examination of the “sense of fear and overprotective behavior that results in a lack of common sense and sense of humor” is ultimately subjected to its own discourse.

Perhaps it should be considered performance art on a larger scale, I mean contemporary art is often a reaction to our surroundings. Are we annoyed by the delay? Comforted that our safety is of the utmost concern? Intrigued by the prolonged anticipation?  How one reacts to this is more or less a precursor to how one would react when responding to the actual exhibition.

We at the Dallas Contemporary are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience of this delay, and thank everyone who helped prepare for the original date.  To the public who had plans to attend the opening, allow yourself to reflect on the measure of regulations we are subjected to in our daily lives. I hope that you will attend the rescheduled opening with a slightly more informed perspective as a result of this situation.

But enough of the heavy stuff,  I mean lets face it ~ the anticipation and dramatics are all sort of thrilling!

Aren’t you just a bit more curious to know what’s inside that great big space?

You will know soon enough, and trust me it will be work the wait!!
